This artwork was created as part of my bachelor’s project in Art & Technology at Aalborg University. Its aim is to provoke critical self-awareness in the audience about their perceptions of Greenland, while also illustrating a personal exploration of being caught between two ethnic identities.
The artwork explores the nuanced journey of identity development, focusing on the personal transition from Greenlandic to Danish cultural identification. Through abstract representation, it conveys the tension and blending between identifying as Inuit and as a young Dane. The piece employs symbolic elements and traditional clothing from both Greenlandic and Danish cultures, creating a visual dialogue between the two. This contrast reflects the emotional and cultural dynamics involved in navigating dual identities, offering insight into the complex relationship between heritage and modernity.

I hope the artwork raises awareness of Greenland’s history and the complex relationship between Greenland and Denmark, highlighting the impact colonization and decolonization have had on Greenlandic culture and the Inuit people.
The song Flight by the talented Inuk artist Tanya Tagaq inspired me to visually express the duality of these identities through the artwork.
